The gift that really works!

Romans 5:12-21

 

“She’ll be right”?

 

Two “one for many” events which change everything:  

 

Adam’s transgression ruins everything…          (vv12-14)

 

…But Jesus’ gift fixes everything                      (vv15-21)

 

Are you pretending “she’ll be right”? Or do you know it is?

Romans 5:1-11

   

Hope is risky. 

 

But God offers risk-free hope.

3. How do I get it?

 

A hope that doesn’t put us to shame. It’s yours.

Romans 4

 

Romans 1-3: The Gospel of Jesus reveals the undeserved gift of being right with God

Romans 4: Abraham is THE example of receiving the undeserved gift of being right with God

• Abraham was not declared right with God by works 

• or by circumcision     

• or through the law            

• Abraham was justified by faith        

Have you accepted the undeserved gift of being right with God?

God’s Wrath

God’s Power

Romans 1:6-17

The Gospel is the Power of God (v16-17)

– it brings salvation

– and reveals God’s righteousness

Receiving the Gospel makes us God’s people (v6-7)

Fellowship in the Gospel is a gift (v8-13)

Proclaiming the Gospel is a debt (v14-15)

A question beneath Job’s pain: “Why doesn’t God stop evil?”

 

  

God answers: What is beyond our control, is not beyond his, cf…

 

    …the behemoth (40:15-24)

 

    …the leviathan (41:1-34)

 

 

Job doesn’t learn “why“, but rather “who” is ultimately in control (42:1-6)

• certification/attestation… promised and anticipated
• content… all about Jesus
• scope… for everyone
• purpose… calls for obedience and faith
• goal… brings glory to Jesus
